Frequently Asked Questions

While PCA offers some flexibility, daily attendance in class is required. During class, students have the opportunity to receive instruction as well as time to ask the teachers questions. A student's IEP is followed for appropriate modifications and accommodations listed on it.

Charter schools are obligated to meet all federal and state laws regarding special education, including following a child’s IEP or 504 Plan. Providing a copy of your child’s IEP/504 Plan or alerting school staff during registration that your child has an IEP will help your child receive the services they need.

Students will receive free virtual services indicated on their IEP from an IEP team decision as needed. These include occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work, speech, orientation and mobility, etc., as determined by an IEP team. Students will often excel and make tremendous progress in their goals and objectives in their therapy because the parents are also part of the therapy through watching and will learn the skills to support their kid at home on a daily basis.

Absolutely!  The IEP team will meet and discuss the roles of the learning coach, how the team will support the student in the home, and support the learning coach as well.  Every student and their need is different, so the IEP team will come up with that student's individualized plan.

Students on gifted IEPs meet with their case manager and other gifted students weekly to work on their IEP goals and to collaborate with like minded peers.  There are elementary, middle school and high school groups.

PCA is proud to offer families another option to education. Many students are successful working virtually from home. We are a public charter school and all day attendance is a requirement. Most students will need learning coach help at home throughout the day.

Yes, all students take district and state tests per their IEP.  Whoever is administering the State, local, or classroom examination implements the testing accommodations.

A teacher works with all students by interviewing them, having them fill out an interest/career inventory, and discuss what they may want to do after high school. This can include support for trade schools, military, college, or job preparation.  All special education IEPs begin planning and supporting for after high school at the age of 14 and The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation is invited to IEP meetings with parent permission. Other supporting agencies can be invited as well. PCA also offers transition classes for post-seniors who continue to need focus on IEP goals.

All students are able to still play sports in their local school district.  PCA also has some virtual clubs you can participate in, depending on your interest.
